Addressing the climate crisis is an urgent global priority and we take our responsibility seriously. Building on over 130 years of experience tackling the world’s challenges, GE Vernova is uniquely positioned to help lead the energy transition by continuing to electrify the world while simultaneously working to decarbonize it. GE Vernova helps customers power economies and deliver electricity that is vital to health, safety, security, and improved quality of life.
Job Description
Join GE Vernova’s Gas Power business to rethink gas turbine design. Within System Technologies & Adaptive Intelligence (STAI), you’ll link geometry engines and conceptual design tools with physics-based solvers for CFD, heat transfer, optimization, and mechanical analysis, turning complex workflows into automated, reproducible pipelines. Over the internship, deliver a working proof of concept, beta test with users, and showcase results to Chief Engineers—advancing cleaner, more flexible power. You’ll collaborate with fellow interns and STAI engineers, applying AI/ML, optimization methods, and parametric CAD to accelerate engineering and pave the way for scaled adoption.
Project Outcomes:
• Deliver a working proof-of-concept (POC) connecting geometry engines and conceptual system design tools to physics-based gas turbine tools (CFD, heat transfer, optimization, mechanical) via APIs/MCPs or other workflow techniques; enable automated execution of multi-tool workflows.
• Beta test the POC with user communities; collect feedback and iterate for robustness, usability, and reliability.
• Provide progress demos and final report-outs to leadership and/or Chief Engineers.
• Produce clear documentation (architecture, interfaces, usage) and recommend next steps toward operationalization (e.g., scaling toward TRL 5+ readiness).
• Apply Lean / Agile / Six Sigma concepts to deliver outcomes on-time, aligned with STAI’s vision and charters.
Primary Skills Developed:
• Workflow design and orchestration patterns for engineering toolchains.
• API/MCP integration or other workflow techniques with commercial and/or in-house physics-based tools; multi-tool pipeline automation.
• Practical exposure to CFD, heat transfer, optimization, and mechanical design workflows.
• Parametric CAD/geometry engine strategies (rules-based and free-form) connected to conceptual system design.
• Systems thinking that fuses physics-based modeling with data management for engineering impact.
• Lean, Agile, and/or Six Sigma application in an R&D setting; beta testing and user-feedback loops.
• Executive communication and storytelling with technical demos; report-outs to leadership / Chief Engineers; cross-functional teamwork.
Basic Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in engineering or computer science (in progress or completed by start of internship).
• 6 months or more of relevant co-op, internship, or work experience.
• This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled data, deemed License Required (LR). Must be U.S. Export Controlled cleared.
Desired Qualifications:
• Understanding of physics-based engineering tools and workflows (CFD, heat transfer, modeling, optimization, mechanical) and/or computer science foundations (AI/ML, algorithms, data structures, optimization).
• Experience building automation or tool integrations via APIs or MCPs or other workflow techniques; comfort automating multi-tool pipelines.
• Familiarity with parametric CAD, geometry engines, and rules-based or free-form modeling in conceptual design.
• Exposure to gas turbine or turbomachinery environments; aerodynamics experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated learning agility to bring clarity to complex, cross-disciplinary problems with measurable impact.
• Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Agile principles.
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills; comfortable interfacing across levels and geographies in a global organization.
• Change-agent mindset with bias for early adoption and process improvement.
