Compensation Overview

The hourly salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual hourly rate for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Enterprise Experience Design (EXD) is a strategic capability essential to understanding and designing desirable experiences, services and products across the Travelers enterprise. EXD combines a range of research and facilitation methods, strategy, mapping and visualization techniques (such as service design and journey mapping) as well as prototyping, design and testing. We also work collaboratively with our adjacent teams in Data & Analytics, Voice of Customer and Transformation.

As a summer intern in our Enterprise Experience Design Strategy practice, you will support our team of EXD Design Strategy leads and engage with our XD Community of Practice across business units. You will help with various activities in our Design Strategy practice, learn about the Experience Design and Customer Experience functions, and gain exposure to other groups.

What Will You Do?

  • Leveraging our breadth of secondary research to form early assumptions
  • Observation, note-taking, and analysis of primary user research and insight generation
  • Helping to plan and prepare collaborative activities such as workshops and design strategy sessions
  • Experience mapping such as journey mapping and service blueprinting
  • Prototyping and design if/when needed (the Enterprise XD function is primarily focused on design and experience strategy with light prototyping and design). Deep Prototyping and Design skills are welcomed, but not required.
  • PowerPoint slide generation and design
  • Participating on specific projects and alongside project teams
  • Presenting work within the XD practice
  • Helping with administrative tasks

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Strategic thinker with bias toward action
  • Design Thinking and Human-centered design
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Able to independently carry out specific tasks with clear direction from a supervisor
  • Awareness of UX/XD techniques and artifacts, such as user personas, experience mapping, UI wireframes, interactive prototyping, design collaboration, design thinking activities, usability testing, etc.
  • Basic competence with common business and design software:
    • MS Office suite, specifically PowerPoint
    • Digital whiteboards
    • Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar
  • UX or User Experience Research and Design
  • Design Strategy or Experience Strategy
  • Visual Communications Design
  • Service Design
  • Human Factors or Human-Computer Interaction
  • Anthropology and Ethnographic Research

What is a Must Have?

  • Obtained or pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree required.
  • You must be 18 years of age to apply.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.
