Job Description
We are looking for a candidate to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice located in our Germantown, Maryland or Conshohocken, Pennsylvania office as a Structural Dam Safety Engineer Intern. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience working with the ENR-ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm, contributing to meaningful water infrastructure projects that enhance public safety and resilience.

This position is expected to begin in May 2026.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with design, analysis, inspection, and construction observation tasks for dam safety projects.
- Support engineers in performing structural stability and strength analyses for concrete dams, spillways, outlet works, and other hydraulic or site structures.
- Help prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications under the supervision of other engineers.
- Develop AutoCAD drawings and structural details for design deliverables.
- Participate in field visits and dam safety inspections, documenting site conditions and supporting construction oversight.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering and with the intent to continue enrollment after the internship and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S Citizenship is required for this position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- Completed or currently enrolled in key structural engineering course such as Mechanics of Materials, Statics, and Reinforced Concrete Design.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Previous internship experience related to structural engineering
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in dam and hydraulic structure engineering.
- Interest in pursuing FE certification and future professional engineering licensure.
- Ability and desire to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
