Job Description:

About the Role & Program:

At Disney, storytelling and technology move together. The Studio Technology team builds the intelligent backbone that powers global content operations. We design cloud-native, AI-driven systems that help deliver Disney’s stories to audiences everywhere. Join us in shaping the future of media workflows, where automation, orchestration, and creative technology converge to redefine how stories are made and shared.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll explore how artificial intelligence, automation, and modern software architectures can transform the media supply chain. You’ll work directly with engineers and technical leads on initiatives that bring emerging technologies to life, such as AI-powered localization, generative workflows, and next-generation tools for accessibility, media manufacturing, and creative collaboration.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge productivity and engineering tools, including AI-powered coding assistants, agentic development frameworks, and automated testing systems, while strengthening the critical thinking and computer science fundamentals that drive great software engineering.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and support applications and cloud workflows that use AI and machine learning, including large language models, transcription, voice synthesis, subtitling systems, and decision engines for process automation.

  • Contribute to proofs of concept for agentic, event-driven workflow orchestration that blend automation with human judgment across content pipelines.

  • Write and test maintainable, modular code in Python, Java, Kotlin, or JavaScript to solve real-world problems in media localization, manufacturing and accessibility.

  • Apply AI tools and coding assistants throughout the software development lifecycle to accelerate development, generate test cases, and improve code quality.

  • Collaborate with engineers, ML specialists, product owners, and stakeholders to translate creative and operational needs into scalable technical solutions.

  • Participate in engineering ceremonies such as Agile sprints, architecture reviews, and internal learning sessions to grow your technical and collaborative skills.

  • Support efforts to evaluate, refine, and deploy AI models for subtitling, dubbing, captioning, and audio descriptions.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, Kotlin, or JavaScript.

  • Solid understanding of data structures, object-oriented programming and RESTful API design.

  • Foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence, including generative models and/or neural networks (coursework and personal projects count).

  • Interest in event-driven or cloud-native software architectures.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to contribute effectively in a diverse, cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Coursework or hands-on experience in machine learning, natural language processing, or cloud platforms (especially AWS).

  • Familiarity with workflow automation technologies such as orchestration engines, state machines, or business rules systems.

  • Interest in media technology, localization, or post-production processes.

Education:

  • Junior or Senior year preferred

  • Major or previous coursework in Computer Science or related field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.

  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

The pay rate for this role in Burbank, CA is $42.00 per hour.
