This position is a 6-month full-time position with a flexible starting month.

The Automation Engineer Co-Op will support Automation projects and the Automation team during the conceptual design and basic engineering development phases and general plant support. The position will support the document generation, Document validation, drawing creation, updates and storage as well as problem resolution. The Automation Engineer Co-Op will participate in cross functional teams to improve technical knowledge, effectiveness, and results.  Working directly with the plant and independently to achieve the assigned goals.

This role will support the individual development of the employee through three different learning strategies: 

Phase 1: Coaching by the Process & Automation Manager and Mentoring by other Automation Engineers on specific projects or assignments.  Participation in task force multidisciplinary teams and shadowing subject matter experts like external technical experts, consultants and Sr. Experts across the company.

Phase 2: Self-Development through self-paced training courses, enrollment in formal training opportunities and enrichment of the learning experience through research and identification of external resources like manuals, tutorials and identification of best practices among other engineers, disciplines and functions across the company.

Phase 3: Hands On experience development through projects, special assignments and plant support assigned to the employee according to his/her stage of development.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Consult with engineers to discuss or interpret design concepts, or determine requirements of detailed working drawings
  • Interact effectively with plant team members, process engineers, project managers and contractors to achieve learning goal, provide support and identify and share best practices
  • Meet Carmeuse expectations on safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and cost control.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and performance enhancements of electrical systems and recommend cost effective solutions and repairs.

Basic Requirements:

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, computer science/engineering, Mechatronics or related field; or Associates degree in engineering/Computer science 
  • Must have a Valid Drivers License, vehicle and ability to travel domestically
  • Familiarity and proficiency with traditional and PLC programming languages favored
  • Ability to achieve timely results and while maintaining a safe work environment is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
