2026 Software Engineer, AI Agents Co-Op Overview

You will contribute significantly to the agility and productivity of our IT organization by building AI agents that challenge the boundaries of traditional computing capabilities. Your work will be crucial in enabling our IT organization (Business Technology Solutions) to fulfill its mission of using technology to propel AbbVie to the forefront of our industry.

This role is part of the Digital Experience and Innovation group within the Business Technology Solutions department.  

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Deliver working, clean, secure Python code 

  • Develop sensible unit tests and anticipate edge cases 

  • Implement agentic workflows within pre-defined frameworks 

  • Understand the LLM landscape and help to evaluate the right tools for the right tasks 

  • Learn new skills and approach problems creatively 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, AI, or other related field 

  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the co-op 

  • Expected graduation date between December 2026 – June 2027 

  • Strong Python skills. Experience with AWS is a strong plus. 

  • Strong communication skills – both verbally and in writing 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Prior experience or internships deliver and maintain working software in a production environment. 

  • Experience working with foundational language models and LLM frameworks 

  • Understanding of structured outputs, output validation and other agentic concepts 

  • Experience with a variety of programming languages, cloud technologies, and frameworks, with a willingness to learn new and evolving technologies.
