Program Overview
The CapMetro Emerging Talent Internship Program is an 8-week, onsite experience designed to provide hands-on exposure across departments such as:
Safety & Operations
Engineering & Vehicle Maintenance
Technology & Data Analytics
Planning & Project Management
Human Resources, Communications, and Administration
Interns will work 15-20 hours a week alongside professionals and receive mentorship, professional development workshops, and exposure to both office and operational environments.
Pending funding and performance, interns may also have the opportunity for an extension of their role.
Applicants must be available between June 1st- July 31st for the intern program.
Applicants must also submit your resume, faculty letter of recommendation and short statement of interest outlining preferred departments or skill areas. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
WHAT YOU BRING
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited institution, or
- Recently graduated (within the past 6 months) or enrolled in an eligible workforce/training program aligned with the internship role.
- Applicants must also submit your resume, faculty letter of recommendation and short statement of interest outlining preferred departments or skill areas.
Compensation
The internship is unpaid. Interns are encouraged to apply for external funding from their respective schools or programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions with opportunities to experience both office settings and operational facilities such as maintenance garages or transit hubs where safety regulations will be strictly enforced. This position works with multiple project timelines.
Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout a six to eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment.
Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.

Mobility Status:
As a Stationed position, the incumbent is expected to be assigned an individual workspace. Expected to work in the office 4 days a week. Mobility status is subject to change at any time based on business needs or organizational decisions.

This position has been identified as a “Security Sensitive” position. CapMetro will conduct annual background checks on incumbents in this position. A position is “Security Sensitive” if the incumbent handles currency, has access to sensitive computerized databases, has access to master keys, or works in an area of the CapMetro that has been designated as a security-sensitive area.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary by assigned department but may include:
Support data entry, analysis, and reporting to inform operational decisions.
Assist in the development of dashboards, documentation, or process workflows.
Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and project coordination sessions.
Contribute to policy, training material, or process documentation updates.
Shadow field operations, such as maintenance facilities, stations, or transit control centers.
Prepare presentations or project summaries for staff or leadership.
Support CapMetro Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
