Northrop Grumman is seeking Embedded Software Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems sector in Apopka, FL.
The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Targeting & Survivability (T&S) Division.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Embedded Software Engineering Intern will be involved in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle: design, code, test, integration, verification and field integration support—facilitated by an Agile software development workflow. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assist in hardware bring-up, system debugging and code optimization, making performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:
- Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2026
- Be majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related STEM degree.
- Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2026.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher
- Strong software fundamentals including proficiency in designing and implementing software solutions for embedded systems, understanding of software maintainability best practices, and knowledge of relevant tools and frameworks.
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming language for firmware development.
- Familiarity with low-level programming concepts, such as memory management, interrupt handling, and hardware interfacing.
- Familiarity with embedded development boards and microcontrollers and their communication interfaces: UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and USB.
- Ability to write firmware in both a bare-metal and RTOS contexts.
- Knowledge of embedded development tools like debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and signal generators with ability to troubleshoot and debug hardware issues using them.
- Proficiency in writing automated tests for embedded firmware.
- Knowledge of testing frameworks and libraries for embedded systems, such as Unity for C or Catch2 for C++.
Intern Pay Range:
Bachelor’s: $17.75 to $32.75 per hour
Master’s: $25.50 to $40.50 per hour

Primary Level Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
