You will join the subsystems team of optical network division, which has a proven record of inventing record-breaking  optical coherent technologies and developping best-in class optical coherent modules. Our team designs and develops optical fiber coherent modules and pluggable for wide range of high-speed applications including data-center interconnect, metro networks and sub-see long-haul networks.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Acquire knowledge on requirements for coherent pluggable modules for ZR and ZR+ applications.
  • Explore and compare different models to emulate EEPN impairment for ZR and ZR+ applications.
  • Implement some EEPN models using some HDL, Verilog or VHDL, on available state-of-the art FPGA framework.
  • Document and present the developed system and results to a wide subsystem

You are:

  • Available of at least 3 months
  • Fluent in English
  • Speaking in German is a plus.
  • Currently a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, preferably with an accredited school in the European Union.

You have:

  • A positive and open mindset and strong drive to succeed.
  • Some knowledge of signal processing blocks in coherent optical fiber communication.
  • Experience with HDL languages such as Verilog, Systemverilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with hardware (FPGA) design, simulation and related tools such as Vivado, QuestaSim, Synopsys VCS or others.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Demonstrated early research results through journal papers or other industry recognition

• Works within clearly defined guidelines, standard operating procedures and / or technical methods with regular supervision.

• Evaluates and selects appropriate alternatives from defined options and makes judgments based on the analysis of information to solve standard problems.
