Job Description

This is an exciting role within the System Technologies and Adaptive Intelligence team in Gas Power Engineering, who’s organization vision is to create “An artificial-intelligence-enhanced electric power & CO2 focused innovation team that supports and incubates new ventures and ideas through diligent engineering to provide cleaner, more flexible power to the world.”  We are looking for innovative systems design interns to help us achieve this vision, bringing Gas Power products from conceptual design to new product introduction.

Internship Outcomes:

• Design state-of-the-art conceptual design ecosystem for gas turbine applications.
• Develop gas turbine and plant conceptual design product cost, performance and methods with emphasis to deploy Adaptive Intelligence methods for robust solutions and design productivity. Develop and deploy machine learning, AI, Nx, nTop or other methods and tools to advance product system design as needed.
• Innovative Problem Solving: utilize analytical skills to troubleshoot and propose innovative solutions to engineering challenges in gas turbine conceptual design and plant systems. 
• Receive technical training, mentorship, and coaching from world-class technologists and experienced technical managers
• Participate in Cross-Functional Teams: Engage with various departments and teams to support GE Vernova’s mission of electrification and decarbonization. Collaborate with cross-functional experts in gas turbine engineering to ensure robust and high value solutions.
• Apply coursework, such as aerodynamics, thermodynamics, dynamics, machine learning, and data science, to high impact and cutting-edge business needs.
• Report progress and outcomes to engineering leadership and stakeholders

Primary Skills Developed:

• Technical expertise in your chosen field with real-world application to gas turbine conceptual design
• Hands-on experience creating innovative solutions for world-class gas turbine product development and design systems
• Proficiency in using Adaptive Intelligence and Machine Learning to deliver robust, high-performance solutions
• Technical communication and leadership skills through effective reporting to engineering leadership and stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 4.0 GPA (without rounding) out of 5.0 scale.
• Working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in technical field of study in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
• Must commit to working full time (40 hrs/wk) during the internship.
• US Person with authorization for access to US export-controlled information.

Desired Qualifications:

• An analytical approach to problem solving with a high degree of curiosity and entrepreneurial drive
• Self-starting and personal drive and creative ability to make decisions and produce results
• Working knowledge of gas turbine components and thermodynamics
• Proficiency in programming, such as Python, Windows Batch scripts, etc.
• Proficiency in solid modeling and parameterization with NX and/or nTop
• Excellent organizational, written communication, and oral communication skills
• Willingness and ability to learn from others and to learn from mistakes
• Demonstrated leadership and team player with creative problem solving and proactive learning
• One who strives for academic excellence and shows great initiative
• Desire to work in a fast paced and agile environment
• Prior intern, co-op, or research experience, particularly in the gas turbine industry or related field

The pay for this position ranges from $25-$34/hr. based on years of undergraduate/graduate field of study completed

This position is also eligible for:

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
  • Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services
  • GE Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans. (Eligibility occurs on the 1st of the month following the 90th day.)
