Overview

GitHub is looking for a creative, organized, and (likely) terminally online intern to join our Social Media team for Summer 2026 and assist our organization in telling GitHub’s brand story to our millions of followers across the world. As a Social Media intern, you’ll help us grow our followings, and create engaging developer-first content. This role will be responsible for helping run our day-to-day social media operations, build understanding of up-and-coming channels as well as work with stakeholders to create social-first content across all of GitHub’s main brand social channels.

This is a remote summer internship for 12 consecutive weeks with start dates between May-June 2026.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the social media team in day-to-day operations as well as reporting to the larger company social media’s impact
  • Ensure we have a robust calendar across all channels
  • Research up and coming platforms and work with Social Media team on proposed approach/potential impact (i.e. Bluesky, Mastodon, etc.)
  • Help scale our community management capabilities
  • Partner with teams like Developer Relations, Product, Social Impact, and more to create engaging content for our audiences
  • Participate in internal meetings and meetings with external partners like our agencies/vendors

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Currently in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree or Master's Degree in Communications or Marketing or related field, with an expected conferral date between December 2026 and August 2027.
  • Knowledge and industry awareness of social media platforms, both in the platforms GitHub uses (Meta - FB/Insta, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok), as well as those that are up and coming

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has used different social media platforms and understands the differences between them
  • Created content for social media platforms and understand the nuances of creating content specific for different channels
  • Enthusiasm to work with teams all across the company to help amplify their work
  • Willingness to learn about the nuances of doing social media for a tech company with a very global and superfan audience

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is USD $20.76 - USD $55.14 /Hr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
