What does our Internship Program offer?
Key’s Enterprise Internship is a 10.5-week program that provides meaningful work that matters, offers feedback and coaching, and creates engaging events and conversations that will spark excitement and interest in bringing one’s full-time career to Key.
Interns are involved in a host of line of business specific projects that directly impact and benefit Key’s business and strategic pillars. The program includes networking with Key teammates across all levels of the organization, a series of Learning Labs where internal and external speakers provide insight on Key’s competitive landscape, financial wellness, and professional development best practices, and an assigned mentor who shares knowledge, experience, and advice.
Job Summary
The Design Excellence & Operations Intern will support the DExOps team by contributing to initiatives that enhance the Experience & Design (KeyXD) team’s ability to deliver Excellence across our People, Processes, Platforms, and Portfolio—from how we collaborate and communicate with one another to the quality of the work we deliver, the experiences we create, the impact we make and the value we add to Key, our partners, and our clients.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to learn, grow your knowledge and skills, share your unique perspective and ideas, and contribute to: team interactions and communications; project intake and resource allocation; process improvements and documentation; workflow optimization; team collaboration; vendor and tool management, and more. This role offers hands-on experience in design operations and exposure to cross-functional teamwork within a design-forward organization.
Essential Functions
- Assist in documenting and standardizing design processes and workflows across teams to support operational clarity.
 - Support the organization and maintenance of centralized systems for design documentation and assets.
 - Help coordinate team communications and feedback loops to promote transparency and alignment.
 - Help create and participate in team-building and knowledge-sharing activities to foster collaboration.
 - Perform other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
 - Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.
 
Education
- Must have completed at least two years toward a four-year, undergraduate degree program with coursework in Design, Business, Communications, or related field with an anticipated graduation in or before May of 2027.
 
Work Experience
- No prior professional experience required. Previous internship or project work in design, design operations or process improvement is a plus.
 
Skills
- Engaging personal presence with proactive can-do attitude and ability to think broadly about what teams need to perform at their best.
 - Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on clarity and simplicity.
 - Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment and contribute to group initiatives.
 - Strong time-management and organizational skills to support multiple tasks.
 - Familiarity with the design process and the DesignOps field is a plus.
 - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, Jira is a plus.
 - Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
 
Physical Demands
- General Office: Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in-person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.
 
Location
The internship is open to placement in Cleveland or New York City.
Compensation and Benefits
This position is eligible to earn an hourly rate of $23 per hour. Compensation also includes a $2,000.00 Summer Internship Sign-on Bonus.
KeyBank’s Internship and Analyst positions are not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes, for example, situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H-1B visa sponsorship within a few years of employment in order to maintain employment eligibility.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base hourly rate in the range of $18.00 - $22.60 per hour. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location.Please note: While a base pay range is referenced above, this position is compensated at a fixed rate of $23 hourly and is eligible to receive a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
