What you'll do:
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for supporting both the Automotive and Production Team initiatives for Geotab. As part of the Production Team, you will assist the team that interacts with manufacturers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, specifically, as well as working on mechanical requirements such as tooling and harness specifications. In this role, you will be making sample harnesses and production jigs. You will work with internal stakeholders to ensure the designs are sound electrically and that all the product engineering requirements are met. This includes ensuring prototypes from suppliers are field acceptable. You will also be responsible for managing engineering documentation and mechanical drawings and ensuring updated revision control is maintained.
The opportunity:
- 16-month work-term beginning May 2026.
- Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday, 37.5hrs/week.

How you'll make an impact:
- Create and maintain harness/cable assembly and cable schematics and other mechanical drawings per engineering requirements and in coordination with QA using SolidWorks.
- Work with Engineering to define objectives and correct electrical requirements.
- Ensure all testing and compliance criteria are specified on drawings.
- Assist with building engineering prototypes per the desired specifications.
- Maintain document control and revision history (internal and external).
- Review suggested alternate connectors/parts and supplier drawings for compliance with requirements.
- Review First Article samples for compliance with approved specs.
- Perform stack-up/tolerance analysis and review on various products and ensure accurate dimensional accuracy.
- Incorporate testing knowledge and best practices into new designs and maintain lessons learned.
- Assist production with jig tooling and design.
- Assist production in various other tasks as required.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Completing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with SolidWorks is considered an asset.
- Experience with 3D printing is considered an asset.
- Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing, and qualification is considered an asset.
- Hands-on experience working with plastic injection mold tool design, including insert molding and overmolding, is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques.
- Engineering document control experience in coursework and projects to ensure compliance and consistency of documentation throughout the process.
