Co-op Assignment Overview
Prime Medicine is seeking a Co-op student for the Spring 2026 semester with a strong background in chemistry or biochemistry to join our guide RNA chemistry team. The selected candidate will contribute to the synthesis, purification, and analysis of oligonucleotides. This position provides hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques, oligonucleotide characterization, data documentation, and opportunities to present findings in team meetings. We welcome curious, collaborative problem solvers who are passionate about advancing gene-editing technologies to improve human health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform solid-phase synthesis of oligonucleotides using automated DNA/RNA synthesizers such as the Mermade12.
- Support purification and analysis of oligonucleotides with HPLC, UPLC, and LCMS.
- Prepare buffers and manage inventories of chemicals, reagents, and consumables.
- Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including synthesizers, speedvacs, lyophilizers, and HPLC systems.
- Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), analyze and present data, and uphold safe laboratory practices.
- Coordinate with scientists to maintain an oligonucleotide inventory for the final released guide RNA
Qualifications:
- Current B.S. candidate in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field; basic knowledge of organic chemistry preferred.
- Prior experience working in a chemistry or biochemistry laboratory.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with common computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to nucleic acid chemistry through coursework or laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC, UPLC, or LCMS gained through academic labs or internships.
