Our Drilling and Completions Group within Energy Storage Services is seeking a Full-Time Drilling Engineering Intern to work out of our Houston, Texas office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.


This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
 

Your Impact

  • Support various tasks on Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class I, II, III, V, and VI projects across the United States.
  • Develop a working understanding of state and federal UIC regulations through guided review of regulatory documents and project applications.
  • Assist with field activities under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Support routine engineering tasks related to drilling wells and salt caverns by gathering data, organizing files, and preparing basic technical inputs.
  • Assist in coordinating technical information for well evaluations, including communicating with drilling personnel to support project workflows.
  • Support project research efforts, help with fieldwork preparation, and assist with preliminary design calculations and basic analyses.
  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and maintaining project documentation and records.
  • Complete required training modules and task-specific learning assignments.
  • Demonstrate responsible and ethical judgment when handling company resources and follow WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Assist in preparing simple schematics and drawings under supervision.
  • Draft sections of reports and help prepare other project-related documents.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or a related field, with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Petroleum Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Masters or PhD program in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or a related field, with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
