The WEX Summer Internship Program: Learn, Lead, and Make an Impact

Our 13-week paid internship program, running from late May to mid-August, is a chance for you to gain real-world experience and develop your skills. Recruiting begins in September and continues through December at our various locations across the U.S.

You won't just be a bystander; you'll work on impactful projects and contribute to WEX’s mission. We provide mentorship, professional development, and weekly learning experiences to help you build confidence and leadership skills. High-performing interns may even get the chance to lead their own initiatives.

We offer remote, hybrid, and onsite options for flexibility, and our goal is to bring top interns back full-time or offer them extended roles during the school year.

About the Team/Role:
The WEX Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team seeks individuals who are passionate about developing software and solutions focused on observability, incident response, reliability and performance, operational excellence, and compliance. The team will be part of the Platform Reliability organization, supporting our internal stakeholders and shared Platform Technologies. As part of the Platform Reliability organization, you’ll have the opportunity to solve complex challenges, improve the quality of life of our engineering teams, and improve our ability to service our customers.

The successful candidate should have a strong aptitude for learning new technologies and the ability to drive complex and meaningful projects to a conclusion. Tight-knit collaboration with the engineering teams and an ability to thrive under pressure are key skills required to succeed in this role.
 

How you'll make an impact:

• Willingness to dig deep into code, networking, operating systems, and/or storage solutions to solve complex issues.

• Develop automation and monitoring tools to ensure system reliability.

• Participate in incident response and troubleshooting.

• Identify and address performance bottlenecks.

• Collaborate with development teams to ensure software design meets operational requirements.

• Continuously improve processes and procedures to increase system reliability and efficiency.

• Explore opportunities to leverage AI/ML in observability, incident analysis, and automation to reduce toil and accelerate root cause identification.

Experience you'll bring:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and will have completed at least your Sophomore year of school at the start of the internship.

• Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

• Experience in software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, Go, Bash).

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience with observability and logging technologies.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.

• Experience with Datadog and Splunk.

• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.

• Interest in or exposure to AI/ML concepts, especially around automation, anomaly detection, and intelligent alerting.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
