Our company is an international, multidisciplinary firm, providing services to a wide base of clients across the globe. Our environmental group in Coral Gables, Florida is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Team. Our group is dedicated to managing the environmental components of projects for Federal, State and local agency clients, primarily within the South Florida region, with a heavy focus on transportation projects. We provide our clients with a wide range of services including natural resource assessments and permitting, NEPA compliance and document preparation, permit compliance oversight during construction, ecosystem restoration design and construction, environmental planning and design services, and sea level rise analyses.
Your Opportunity:
We are seeking an entry level staff scientist/biologist to work on a variety of projects related to our work with the Florida Department of Transportation and other clients. In this role you can grow alongside Stantec staff to enrich your career path by making a positive impact. The qualified candidate will be a highly motivated and organized individual. Preferred experience may include one or more of the following: benthic resource surveys, threatened/endangered species surveys, wetland delineations, wetland functional assessments, technical report writing, environmental permitting, and/or regulatory agency coordination in South Florida.
Responsibilities:
Candidate will work in a team effort to conduct natural resource field surveys and research for the preparation of biological impact assessments, NEPA documents, and permit applications. Responsibilities will also include:
- Identification of potential environmental impacts through reviews of engineering plans, aerials, and GIS databases;
- Technical report writing;
- Conducting benthic/marine resource surveys and preparing benthic/marine resource survey reports;
- Conducting wildlife surveys and preparing wildlife survey reports;
- Delineating wetlands, conducting functional assessments, and preparing corresponding documentation;
- Conducting wetland mitigation monitoring and preparing monitoring reports;
- GIS analysis and exhibit creation; and,
- Effective communication with colleagues, clients, and agency personnel.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in biological/environmental sciences or a M.S. in biological/environmental science field.
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems and skills.
- Ability to do conduct fieldwork in harsh conditions (swimming in strong currents) and demanding field environment.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
- May require working long field days outdoors, sometimes under rigorous conditions (e.g., hot and/or rainy weather, remote areas, under water, in a wide variety of habitats).
- Prior experience snorkeling and/or free diving.
- Scuba certification by a recognized agency and scientific diving experience to collect scientific data.
- Experience operating and navigating boats in tidal waters is desirable.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting regulations is desirable.
- ArcGIS experience is desirable.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to drive corporate vehicles including a full size pickup truck safely.
