Job Title: Intern - Software or Electrical Engineer

Location: Edinburgh

Role Type: 12-month internship – on site, full time

Job Summary:

As a Software or Electrical Engineer Intern at Honeywell, in Edinburgh you will be responsible for working on the space mission team and contributing to the development of secure quantum and Radio Frequency communication systems. This role offers hands-on experience in a cutting-edge international space project.

This role is part of our University Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell. This internship is set up for 12 months starting from summer 2026, and is for candidates graduating in 2028.

Key responsibilities:

We have 3 roles available, 2 in software engineering and 1 in electrical engineering. 

You will work closely with experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience within a friendly and supportive team, or with an assigned buddy, to be trained to achieve the following:

  • Assist in developing software/hardware for QKD or RF payloads and ground systems.
  • Support automated testing and quality assurance processes.
  • Assist in the design, testing, and validation of electronic circuits and systems.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in the development of technical documentation and specifications.

Key skills and qualifications

  • Currently studying a sandwich course degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, graduating in 2028
  • Software Engineers need proven experience in the Java and C++, Automated Test Frameworks, Agile (SCRUM), and software testing, (this can be from your studies hobbies or a work placements)
  • Electrical Engineers need proven experience in electronic circuit design and analysis, simulation and design tools, (such as SPICE or MATLAB), and experience with Printed Circuit Board design and layout tools, (this can be from your studies hobbies or a work placements)
  • Candidates must be able to commute with ease to our Edinburgh site
