The Role

This is a summer internship opportunity in Norwood, MA from June 1, 2025 – August 14, 2026. Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the internship. Start date will be June 1, 2026.

The Clinical Biomarker Laboratories at Moderna is looking for top talent in science and engineering to deliver on its mission to complete sample testing for Moderna clinical trials.  Summer Interns will have an opportunity to be part of high-performing project teams developing new clinical assays for mRNA therapeutics and vaccines destined for clinical trials and commercial licensure.  You will apply your educational background and learn new technical skills in the science of mRNA and clinical assays. You will develop a deep understanding of clinical sample testing under regulated environment.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Work with a team of highly skilled experts to come up to speed quickly on technology and techniques.

  • Use laboratory, technical and communication skills to generate experimental results, perform data analysis, and document in formal reports including conclusions and recommended next steps.

  • Support technology transfer and provide sample testing support at internal Moderna, and external contract research organization (CRO) sites.

  • Participate in planning, design, execution, analysis of experiments and formal risk assessments to establish critical process parameters, and overall experiment control strategies.

  • Review and share relevant academic literature and establish new collaborations with internal research and compliance groups.

  • Prepare technical reports and present finding in cross-functional meetings.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or similar.

  • Basic knowledge of standard lab procedures (such as pipetting) required

  • Completed foundational biology courses such as cell biology, biochemistry, or laboratory techniques in biology

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent

  • Technical experience in any of the following areas desired: cell/tissue culture, in vitro transfections, protein/antibody detection methods (e.g., MSD, ELISA, Luminex), assay development and troubleshooting. Prior co-op or internship experience is preferred but not required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
