Lake Grove, NY, USA

Remote Work: Hybrid
The purpose of this internship is to prepare college students for entry into the business world by providing a thorough understanding of the various functions of the Zebra Technologies organization. The program is designed to provide you with a full experience so that you can fully envision a career with Zebra. You will be positioned for success with training, exposure to all parts of the business, social activities, a professional mentor relationship and development sessions to help you discover your own performance edge!
Product Managers (PdMs) in Zebra's Machine Vision (MV) and Fixed Industrial Scanning (FIS) group are responsible for identifying market problems that customers will pay to solve using machine vision systems and image-based, fixed mount barcode readers; collaborating with engineers from multiple disciplines to develop new hardware and software products and capabilities to solve those problems; and partnering with marketing and sales to drive those solutions to profitable market success. PdMs must be strategic thinkers, entrepreneurial, tech savvy -- ideally with strong interest in machine vision, imaging technology, and AI -- and strong communicators.
Responsibilities:
- Using all publicly available information, perform a comprehensive research survey of the specific applications our competitors (and their partners) claim to have solved using their smart camera-based vision systems and ID readers
- For each application identified, categorize according to market vertical (e.g., automotive, logistics, food & beverage, semiconductor & electronics); installation environment (e.g., manufacturing line or warehouse); and the machine capabilities used (e.g., defect detection, pattern matching, measurement, identification, robot guidance, etc.)
- For each application, qualitatively assess the extent of the competitor's focus and strength on that application. For example, do they provide an application-specific user interface? Do they offer an application-specific product literature and videos? Do they promote their solution through specific partners?
- Time permitting, work with the Applications Engineering team to assess how well Zebra's current smart camera product offerings solve 3 to 5 of the most common applications frequently discussed by our competitors, identifying feature/functionality gaps
- Prepare a summary of findings on all the above and present to MV/FIS group leaders and senior management
- Develop planning, organizational and leadership skills
- Increase technology knowledge and skills
- Develop team-based work proficiencies
- Develop interpersonal skills to connect with day-to-day business contacts through follow up activities
