The Manufacturing Engineering Intern plays a critical role in supporting the engineers to optimize and improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, quality, and safety. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing tools, gauges, and equipment. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, reduce waste, and enhance overall production performance.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Design, develop, and implement new manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling.
- Optimize existing manufacturing processes for efficiency, throughput, quality, and cost reduction.
- Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and control plans.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping).
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis for production issues and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Drive efforts to reduce scrap, rework, and waste.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement permanent solutions.
- Collaborate with Production to support daily operations, resolve technical issues, and provide training.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.

Qualifications
Please note that to be eligible for this role, you must be an undergraduate student seeking a placement year as part of your degree - if you do not meet these criteria please consider applying for other positions.
Our ideal candidate must have:
Be an undergraduate student (studying an Engineering focused degree) with a desire to complete a 12-month work placement as part of degree studies.
Our ideal candidate should have:
- Be a capable 3D CAD user, ideally NX, and able to interpret & create technical drawings
- Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
- Has the ability to adapt quickly to changing working environments and is ready to embrace new ways of working through digitalisation
- Has the confidence to challenge and create new ideas.
- Has the capability to work well in a team as well as independently, using own initiative.
- Has a quality mind-set with high attention to detail.
- Can communicate confidently with people at all levels, both written and verbal (including on the telephone).
- IT literate and confident in using MS Office packages as well as learning Company systems.
