Job Description:
The CRYOPROP (Cryogenic Propulsion) program is a 3-year effort to explore the potential of superconducting materials and cryogenic temperatures on the performance of an aircraft’s electrical propulsion system.
As a ground-test demonstrator, CRYOPROP is an ambitious, futuristic and disruptive superconducting and cryogenic experimental powertrain for hybrid/full electric propulsion system.
CRYOPROP will be composed of an ground-test electric demonstrator including a superconducting DC/AC network, a cryogenic motor control unit, a superconducting electric motor and of a cryogenic system. It also includes a ground-test cryogenic demonstrator, to analyse the behaviour of cryogenic components (heat-exchanger, valves, cryofan) for the cryogenic cooling system.
The opportunity of a Manufacturing & Industrialization engineering internship has risen within the team, based in Toulouse.
This internship will ideally begin in February 2026 (date subject to flexibility), and will last for a period of 6 months.
Main Missions
This internship will be focused on a preliminary industrialization assessment for core equipment within our Cryoprop portfolio. Your primary objective will be to analyze manufacturing processes, tooling, and supply chain readiness to evaluate the current manufacturing TRL and identify the roadmap for future maturity.
Manufacturing Process Analysis: Identify and document key manufacturing processes for selected Cryoprop equipment, such as superconducting motor components and cryogenic lines. You'll create process flow charts to highlight gaps and novel processes, including emerging techniques like additive manufacturing or specialized joining methods for cryogenic materials.
Reliability & Repeatability (Retex): Help our team document manufacturing trials and lessons learned to collect evidence that our processes are repeatable and reliable. You will assist in collecting and analyzing critical process data to show the manufacturing capability for key components, a crucial step in demonstrating technology readiness.
Supply Chain & Cost Identification: Conduct a preliminary assessment of the supplier landscape for critical manufacturing processes and long-lead-time items. You'll identify potential industrial partners with expertise in cryogenics, superconductivity, and related fields. Additionally, you will help identify the main cost drivers for these manufacturing processes using preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM) data.
You will need to collaborate with a diverse technical team in order to understand the multi-disciplinary constraints around the electrical motor.
An open personality and the ability to work with a good autonomy level in a multi-cultural business environment will be necessary.
