Internship Summary: 

CSX is a Fortune 250 company seeking future business leaders to help foster growth, efficiency and innovation. The selected intern will contribute over a ten-week immersion into Operations as experienced through CSX methods and culture. This individual will complete challenging real-world assignments, working hand in hand with leaders across the company to support its strategic messages and exposure to corporate leadership. This internship provides an opportunity for candidates to gain market experience at a dynamic, large-cap company while allowing CSX to actively recruit tomorrow’s best talent. 

Internship opportunity with the Positive Train Control (PTC) team. The intern must have a passion for technology, law, policy, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior leadership.

Internship Details:

  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 26, 2026 and ending July 31, 2026. (Location: CSX HQ or minimal hybrid/remote)
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria

  • The Summer Internship Program will include:
    • Cross-functional learning, Local Onsite Visits, Executive Networking Sessions and Lunch & Learns and more

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with PTC teams to prepare and organize submissions to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 
  • Assist PTC teams with compiling and analyzing PTC performance data 
  • Identify trends, issues, or anomalies in PTC reporting data for management review
  • Research and summarize FRA regulations, guidance and industry standards affecting PTC
  • Collaborate with PTC teams on the development of recurring reports
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Candidate must be an undergraduate enrolled at an accredited college or university who is in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer engineering, computer science, business administration, information technology, or law. 
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Anticipated graduation within a year after the end of the internship
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4-point scale)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Time management skills
  • Effective analytical, organization, prioritization, and written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with programming languages, such as Python or Java
  • Microsoft Office skills 

Job Requirements:

  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non- standard workweek)
  • Successfully complete a background check and drug test

  • Work in an office environment
  • Up to 5% Travel estimated
