JOB TITLE: 

RESIDENCY MANAGER, JENTEL ARTIST RESIDENCY

ABOUT JENTEL:

The Jentel Artist Residency (www.jentelarts.org) is a nonprofit artist residency that is a major initiative of the Neltje Center, operated by the University of Wyoming. Jentel offers dedicated individuals a supportive environment to further their creative development. Nestled in the foothills of the Bighorn mountains, artists, writers, and composers experience unfettered time for thoughtful reflection and meditation on the creative process. The program provides a unique combination of solitude, community, and access to nature. Jentel offers residencies 11 months of the year, supporting 66 artists annually. Each three-week session hosts six residents—four visual artists or composers and two writers—offering time and space for reflection, creative work, and meaningful interdisciplinary exchange. Rooted in the legacy of artist and philanthropist Neltje, Jentel values collaboration, respect, and the creative spirit of Wyoming.

JOB PURPOSE: 

This full-time, on-site position oversees all aspects of Jentel’s operation, from managing the application review process and residency schedule and logistics, to hosting and supporting artists, overseeing staff and facility’s needs, and ensuring the atmosphere of calm, care, and professionalism that defines the Jentel experience. In addition, the Residency Manager will spend approximately 20% of their time assisting the Executive Director, Neltje Center with administrative and managerial tasks associated with the Neltje Center operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide operational oversight of the Jentel Artist Residency and assist with oversight of the Neltje Center.
  • Monitor maintenance issues and general upkeep of interior/exterior spaces to include working knowledge of all studios, equipment, and technology; coordinate repairs as needed, oversee facility and grounds needs along with other staff; and monitor maintenance issues and general upkeep. 
  • Serve as secondary on-site emergency contact.
  • Manage resident experience and programming to include welcoming each group of artists every three weeks, conducting property tours, studio setup, and overseeing transportation; organizing and facilitating weekly check-ins, local town trips, and occasional artist talks or presentations
  • Provide administrative support for the Jentel Artist Residency to include support of daily operations, responding to inquiries, and maintaining records. Will assist with administrative duties related to Neltje Center scheduling and group visits. 
  • Supervise full-time, part-time and seasonal staff and help create a collaborative and supportive team culture. 
  • Assist in community engagement activities.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in performance-related goal setting and achievement to meet personal and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in training and other personal professional development activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: Two years of experience in the arts or non-profit sector required. Experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. 
  • Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts management or a closely related field. 
  • More than two years’ experience working in an artist residency, nonprofit program management, or arts administration.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proven ability to balance structure and flexibility while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems and internet-based communication tools.
