This position is expected to start August/September 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through approx December 2025) or into Winter/Spring 2026 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

The Test Infrastructure team on Systems Engineering is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering Intern to support the design and development of test systems and facilities infrastructure for Tesla Energy product development, including energy storage, EV charging, and solar systems. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers to design robust test hardware and lab facilities to accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing electrical schematics and layouts for test setups and lab infrastructure using tools like AutoCAD or Altium
  • Support the specification and selection of electrical components (e.g., panels, wiring, DAQs) for test equipment and electrical schedules
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical and mechanical systems in test environments
  • Assist project engineering in defining electrical requirements, attend site walks, and weekly reviews
  • Participate in troubleshooting and validating test setups, including wiring for PLCs, I/O, and DAQ hardware
  • Capture electrical designs to effectively communicate to end users

Job Requirements

  • Pursuing a Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  • Coursework or project experience in electrical design, controls, or automation systems

  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics and power distribution

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium) or CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD)

  • Exposure to industrial automation tools (e.g., PLCs, DAQs) through projects or coursework

  •  Familiarity with high-power or high-voltage systems

  • Hands-on experience in electromechanical systems projects (e.g., robotics, Formula SAE, solar car)
