Job Description

As a Summer Intern in the Materials Chemistry and Physics, you will have the opportunity to develop next generation sorbent materials and or coatings for the decarbonization technologies, as well as functional materials, such as high voltage insulation gel, epoxy resins, dielectric gases.  Assignments are typically for 10-12 weeks; working side by side with experts in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science, completing challenging technical projects, applying theoretical knowledge to real-life technical problems, and developing skills in a cutting edge global industrial research environment.

Project Outcomes:

  • Work with industry leading experts to execute design, analysis, and validation of Carbon Capture

Primary Skills Developed:

  • Strong background in organic and/or inorganic materials synthesis, polymer chemistry, slurry coating formulations, organic and inorganic composite materials

  • Collaborate with Engineers and Scientists from across the Vernova Advanced Research Center and business segments, to advance the energy transition.

  • Mentored by world class Scientists and Engineers, driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero-carbon energy future.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a full-time Ph.D. degree program in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

  • Minimum GPA 4.0 / 5.0 scale.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong dedication to a career in technology and passion for supporting and leading the energy transition.

  • Excitement and enthusiasm for growing technical skills in carbon capture materials synthesis, coating formulation and process development.

  • Hands-on experience in leading sorbent materials synthesis.

  • Experience with polymeric coating formulation.

  • Effective presentation and technical communication skills; ability to articulate technical problems in clear and simple terms.

The weekly base pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 weekly. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position will be posted until at least 9/26/2025.

This position is also eligible for:

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.

  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.

  • Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services

  • GE Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans. (Eligibility occurs on the 1st of the month following the 90th day.)
