Position Summary
Samsung Design Innovation Center (SDIC) is looking for a Computational Design Intern who is passionate about design, technology, and computational workflows. As part of the Computational Design team, you will work at the intersection of digital modeling, data-driven design, and experimental validation. You will gain hands-on experience in preparing and analyzing 3D/4D human scan data, as well as supporting physical testing and user studies that directly impact the development of next-generation wearable products. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work in a cutting-edge R&D environment, collaborating with designers, engineers, and creative technologists in Paris and San Francisco.

Role and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Computational Design & Data Processing:

  • Assist in developing parametric and generative models in Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Support the cleaning and processing of raw 3D human scan data
  • Use in-house Python scripts to process 3D meshes for analysis.
  • Help build structured scan databases for future product development.

Experimental Design & Validation:

  • Assist in 3D/4D scanning sessions for human data collection.
  • Support user testing of wearable prototypes to evaluate fit, comfort, and usability.
  • Participate in materials testing and characterization

Skills and Qualifications

Candidate Profile

  • Proficient in English (speaking and writing)
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or recently graduated in Computational Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Computer Graphics, Human Factors, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Rhinoceros) and Python scripting
  • Interest in 3D scanning, user testing, or human-centered product design.
  • Comfortable working with 3D meshes and processing large datasets.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, and proactive
  • (Nice to have) Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for design applications
  • (Nice to have) Familiarity with finite element simulations (FEM) or material-based simulations

What We Offer

  • A 6-month immersive experience at the intersection of computational design, experimental workflows, and user-centered product innovation.
  • Hands-on exposure to 3D/4D scanning, digital twin creation, and human data analysis.
  • Opportunities to participate in user studies and support experimental product validation.
  • A collaborative and international design environment where innovation drives real-world impact.
  • The chance to contribute to future Samsung products and influence next-generation wearable experiences.
