Lab Technician Student Co-Op/Intern
Where will you work:
Mosaic Potash Belle Plaine is a solution mine and refinery located 50 kilometers west of Regina on the Trans-Canada Highway. It is the world’s largest solution mine that is full of talented people and is home to over 500 dedicated employees. Housing and relocation can be provided for qualified candidates.
The Lab Technician Student Co-Op/Intern will be responsible for accurately performing all routine and non-routine shipping, refinery and field samples in a safe and timely fashion. Full time Co-Op/Internship. Typically, 36-40 hours a week on site.
What will you do?
Day to day duties will include:
Ensure safety and housekeeping standards by applying the proper chemical handling, sampling and analysis procedures, and safety programs.
Plan and perform high quality, accurate, thorough and timely sample preparation, analysis and reporting.
Holding/releasing railcars/unit trains/bagged products and ensuring specifications are met during the manufacture and loading of Water Softener, Animal Feed, Industrial and Agricultural products.
Analyze and evaluate problems including troubleshooting instrument issues. Making sound conclusions and decisions based on the information available.
Work as a team member demonstrating cooperative and team building skills both within the laboratory and with other departments
Adhering to Mosaic’s mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies
What do you need for this role?
Second year or higher pursuing a diploma in Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Geological Engineering or any related Science degree.
Attention to detail and being able to multitask and prioritize workload.
72% Percentage or higher.
1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is preferred.
Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred but not required.
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license - You will need to be able to travel to and from sites and/or office.
Ability to work full time and be a student in standing at the time of the co-op/internship
Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete the following: Post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination.
Basic computer skills are required.
Experience working in a team environment is a must.
Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable.
Effective verbal communication skills is a plus.
Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments.
