Plains has a 6-month Engineering Internship opportunity in our downtown Houston office that will commence on May 18, 2026. The PAA Internship Program will provide exceptional students interested in the oil and gas industry an opportunity to continue their professional development with the best in the business. The successful candidate will be exposed to sub-disciplines within Engineering that will put the knowledge obtained through university into practice. The successful candidate will also participate in several meaningful integrity projects that are designed to both impact the bottom line of Plains business success and develop skills necessary for our graduate opportunities that strong performing interns may become eligible for upon graduation. The Engineer Intern will be focused on integrity execution activities.

The Integrity Engineering Intern will help execute and communicate aspects of the integrity management plan. This role will complete multiple projects related to pipeline integrity. They will work with the division integrity engineers to learn the project lifecycle, identify risks to our assets, and make recommendations for mitigation.

The Asset Integrity group works collaboratively across multiple organizations and assets located throughout the United States.  This group also serves as the primary interface for regulatory agencies and industry groups including but not limited to: DOT/PHMSA - Office of Pipeline Safety, Texas Railroad Commission, American Petroleum Institute, Association of Oil Pipe Lines, and Pipeline Research Council International.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Integrity Management Plan:

    • Execute aspects of the integrity management plan to ensure compliance with DOT 49 CFR 195 regulations

    • Compile and review applicable data to allow for risk reduction

    • Communicate preventative and mitigative actions to applicable stakeholders

  • Conducts Assessments, evaluations, and tracks metrics:

    • Reviews assessment results

    • Compares anticipated inspections results to field found results

    • Completes in-line inspection validations reviews to ensure vendors are performing within required specification

    • Communicates vendor performance metrics to the organization

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred.

  • Must be available to work at the Houston, TX office at least four days per week for the full term.

  • Shows ability to exercise critical decision making and discretion in performing tasks.

  • Ability to set goals and prioritize objectives according to those most critical to business success.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong team player. Works effectively and cooperatively with other departments within the company.

  • Must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, set realistic goals, and complete commitment on schedule.

  • Models effective techniques for handling concerns, objections, and potentially sensitive situations.

  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.

  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
