Candidates should be versatile, eager and able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive financial and technical environment. Our interns will have the flexibility of working 2 days remotely, and 3 days in office per week at one of our state-of-the-art offices in Chicago, Kansas City, and New York City. To be eligible for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in a university or college program and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the internship year. The Internal Audit team is hiring an Internal Audit intern.
The Internal Audit intern at Cboe will support the audit team in evaluating and improving the organization’s internal controls, risk management, and compliance processes. Your work may include participating in audit planning, conducting interviews, analyzing financial and operational data, and documenting findings. You’ll gain exposure to industry regulations and best practices while collaborating with experienced auditors to ensure the company’s operations run smoothly and efficiently. This internship offers a firsthand look at how businesses safeguard their integrity and continuously enhance their procedures.
Your responsibilities and learning objectives will be:
- Develop working understanding of the internal audit process including assisting with the upfront project planning, including the definition of audit scope, audit objectives, and other project planning considerations.
- Assist in the development of an audit testing work program, aligned with the key risks identified during initial planning stages.
- Shadow experienced auditors during walkthroughs to understand business processes, document workflows, and identify key internal controls.
- Execute audit test procedures under supervision to verify the effectiveness of controls, document results, and communicate findings to the audit team.
- Collaborate with audit team members and interact with stakeholders across departments, honing interpersonal and professional communication skills.
- Demonstrate an ongoing curiosity of Cboe’s business environment including operations, regulation, technology, and financial risks and seek out training opportunities to maintain skills.
- Collect, review, and interpret financial records, transactional data, and operational reports to identify trends, variances, and potential control weaknesses.
- Prepare clear, concise workpapers summarizing audit steps, results, and recommendations.
- Build foundational knowledge of industry-specific regulations, compliance requirements, and audit standards (such as SOX, COSO, or IIA guidelines) relevant to the organization.
The ideal candidate:
- Is pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting, Computer Science, Internal Audit or related field(s) and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place.
- Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Shows eagerness to learn about risk assessment, internal controls, and industry regulations, while bringing curiosity and integrity to the audit process.
You’ll really stand out with:
- Completed classes related to risk management, accounting and auditing, financial services or data analytics.
- Prior internship experience in risk management, accounting and auditing, financial services or data analytics.

Our pay range for interns is determined by function and education level. The national new hire base pay range for this job in the United States is $25.00 - $36.00 per hour. This range represents the minimum and maximum base pay target for new hires working in the position full time.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by years of education completed. In addition to base pay, eligibility for our total rewards program may include benefits such as 401 (k) with a generous company match and paid sick time. Your recruiter will provide more details about the total compensation package during the hiring process
