Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) supplies innovative solutions for microscopy and microanalysis. We provide SEMs, TEMs, and DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs combined with advanced software suites to take customers from questions to usable data by combining high-resolution imaging with physical, elemental, chemical, and electrical analysis across scales and modes - through the broadest sample types.
About the Role
The Advanced Technologies Group (AT Group) is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Intern to join our team and contribute to the development of Focused Ion Beam (FIB) Technology. The chosen candidate will collaborate with a diverse group of scientists and engineers to enhance the capabilities of our FIB systems, supporting ongoing research and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the design, simulation, and optimization of ion optics components for FIB systems.
• Conduct experiments using dual-beam microscopes to test and validate the performance of FIB optics. This includes beam profiling, current density measurements, resolution testing, and other relevant evaluations.
• Develop and implement automation protocols for experimental procedures and data acquisition to enhance efficiency and accuracy in testing processes.
• Analyze experimental data to evaluate the FIB performance, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to the development of new methodologies.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations on findings, methodologies, and proposed improvements.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
• Demonstrated laboratory experience and hands-on skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment, demonstrating strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
