The Need 

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% forvery largepopulations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking aCommunicationsIntern to join the 2026 SummerInternship class. 

TheCommunications Internwill supportprogram and advancement staff across the Africa and Europe region.

TheCommunications Internwill support a variety ofproject management tasks for regional communications initiatives as well as support writing,copyeditingand graphic design. Tasks may include:  

  • Managing regionalcommunityof practice scheduling and meeting follow up;

  • Supporting regional speaker trainings;

  • Intranet site management and development;

  • Improvement of processes;

  • Ad hoc creative assignments such as writing, copyediting, and graphic design;

  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support.

This position can be fully in-person or hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates.It reports to theRegional Director, Communications & Marketing, Africa Europe.The position requires20-30hoursper week,primarily during the hours of 8:30am-5:30pm EST.

Summerinternship program dates are June1 –Aug. 7, 2026

General Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree must be in progress for DC/RemoteInternshipsand applicants need to have completed at leasttwoyears of undergraduate study. 

  • Experience inproject management or processimplementation.

  • Experience with intranet site management.

  • Graphic design skillsa plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

*What is a statement of faith?
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM.The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
