Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Intern – Signalling Engineering for Summer, 2026. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hitachi Rail provides signaling systems for metros and light rail systems. Our solutions provide efficient, safe and green transportation solutions for people around the world. We’re looking for eligible students to join Hitachi Rail! Hiring for May 2026 through August 2026.

Mission:

Assist in the design of wayside interlocking circuits in accordance with established design principles, procedures, and specifications.
Assist in programming wayside microprocessor devices in accordance with interlocking rules and all related specifications.

Accountabilities:

Prepare project and design documentation.
Assist with test setup and testing of wayside systems.
Follow established design principles, procedures and specifications as detailed for proper programming of microprocessor devices.
Assist in developing cost estimates for project bids

Required Skills & Experience:

Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical information
Strong relevant technical skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Display excellent time management & organizational skills
Display problem solving and analytical skills to provide optimal solutions

Desired Skills / Knowledge:

Experience with software signaling logic, including troubleshooting, debugging software
Demonstrate competency in programming fundamentals, DC/AC circuit design and analysis & Digital Logic design

Education: Current Engineering student at a 4-year university with a graduation date between December 2026 and December 2027.

Languages:

Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
