The Role

Mach is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to contribute to the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge manufacturing and factory systems. With a focus on taking ownership over complex cross-functional projects between Product Design, Program Management, Materials & Logistics, Supply Chain, and Factory Operations, this role demands a high degree of technical skill, adaptability, and close attention to detail. This role will support equipment, process, DFM/A, and other Advanced Manufacturing initiatives led by Mach's Automotive and A&D Manufacturing Engineering veterans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support prototype build events by tracking new issue containment and resolution using Mach’s custom internal issue management system (Jira); work cross-functionally with Design, Supply Chain, Material Controls, Manufacturing Shop leads, to determine best containment actions, followed by root-causing and corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the root issue(s).

  • Support planning and execution of virtual builds in preparation of Proto and MP build events; define sequencing constraints, standard tooling, manufacturing optimization recommendations, manufacturing feasibility analysis (hand clearance, tool clearance, material handling fixturing compatibility, DVA/GD&T analysis, tolerance stackup).

  • Research, validate, and author new manufacturing domain-specific content for Mach’s internal Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/A) guide documents.

  • Support mass-production ramp activities; assist Manufacturing Engineers with planning and validation of mass-production tooling, fabrication and assembly processes, and collaborate to improve the manufacturing plans prior to start of mass-production (SOP).

  • Factory layout planning and management in AutoCAD.

  • Simple equipment design and procurement, including jigs/fixtures, workholding, mold tooling.

  • Automation equipment design and procurement, vendor project management.

  • Support authoring of Mach’s MES system; consume Engineering BOM (EBOM) content to produce a coherent set of Visual Manufacturing BOM, digital MBOM, standard work instructions / job element sheet using various Manufacturing and Engineering softwares (Manufacturo, Siemens NX/TeamCenter, and Siemens EasyPlan).

  • Support development and maintenance of 150% (greater than) BOM documents, via time/date, serial, and variant effectivities.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program from an accredited college or university in industrial and systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other related engineering disciplines.

  • 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and personal/team project experience is applicable)

  • Ability to work full-time onsite in Huntington Beach, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.5 or above.

  • 6+ months experience of application of technical skills outside of the classroom (examples: laboratory, research, extracurricular project teams, volunteering, personal projects or prior internship/work experience).

  • Experience in high-volume, high-tech Manufacturing environments; Automotive Tech, Aerospace highly preferred.

  • Experience using first-principles approach to solving complex engineering problems .

  • Proficient in Engineering Probability and Statistics based problem solving, preferably using software tools (Minitab, etc.).

  • Proficient in CAD, preferably Siemens NX, Catia, Solidworks.

  • Experience in Discrete Event Simulation Softwares.

  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments, preferably in the Automotive or Composites-related industries.

  • Knowledge of Industrial Engineering time study approaches, including: Predetermined Motion Time System (PMTS), stop-watch, video-analysis-based methods.

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Ergonomic Standards, incl. NIOSH.

  • Bar-raising analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic startup environment.

  • Self-directed with a positive attitude and team spirit.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most offers and are considered part of Mach’s total compensation package.
