About this opportunity

MillerKnoll’s Summer Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a 100% real-world experience for students early in their careers. Throughout the summer you will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

As a CMF & Industrial design intern, you will focus on Color, Material, Finish design support, assisting Industrial Design and product development partners as needed. You will participate in all phases of product design and development, from early concept generation and rough prototyping to execution of final CMF and finished presentations.  Your work will support the design team's effort to drive world-class solutions for the seating, workplace, and lifestyle categories.

  • Ideates and visualizes CMF design concepts for product and presentations
  • Executes established CMF strategy set by design leads
  • Shadows designers to gain visibility to cross functional teams, including design, CMF development, product development, product management and manufacturing
  • Assists in the design and development of proprietary colors, materials, and finishes
  • Supports CMF environmental initiatives related to MillerKnoll’s corporate sustainability goals
  • Supports Internal Design team as needed throughout the design process
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives

What You Bring 
The needed skills and experience for this role include... 

  • Providing a portfolio that demonstrates color, material, and finish (CMF) applied to product with story/rationale
  • Knowledge of design principles and technical knowledge in area of expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interface with internal design, cross functional product development teams and suppliers
  • Ability to identify and solve problems in a creative, participative, and proactive way
  • Must be self-motivated, adaptable, flexible, and able to manage multiple parallel-path projects
  • Team player - ability to negotiate and build consensus across multiple teams
  • Takes initiative to proactively achieve goals and strategies
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite, MS Office Suite and KeyShot

Education

  • Pursuing or completed a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, CMF Design, Interior Design or related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • You must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (overall or within your program) to qualify for consideration in the Intern Program.

Qualifications 

  • Must be authorized to work in the US and will not require sponsorship now or in the future. 
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations
