Mechanical Integrity Engineer Co-Op/Intern

Where will you work:

Mosaic Potash Esterhazy is an underground potash mine located 90 kilometers south of Yorkton. It’s split between three mine sites - K1, K2 and K3 which will be the largest, and one of the world’s most competitive underground potash mines in the world.

A Mechanical Integrity Engineer Co-Op/Intern at Mosaic will be assigned to projects focused on improving plant stationary assets and assessing and documenting condition of existing assets.

What will you do?

Day to day work assignments could include:

  • Investigating failures to determine root causes and developing corrective actions

  • Inspecting condition of structures as well as bins, piping and tanks. Inspections could lead into design assessment using computer modeling or hand calculations.

  • Specific project assignments will be made by the supervisor; assignments could include:

    • Troubleshooting-Using problem-solving techniques such as RCA’s, 8-step and/or 5 Why 

    • Evaluating equipment comparative to design or similar processes 

    • Design/size/validate new or modification of existing equipment  

    • Utilize root cause analysis to review significant failures, identify corrective action to prevent re-occurrence and refine asset strategy to sustain improvement 

    • Identify deficiencies in maintenance processes and develop sustainable improvements 

    • Mine data to identify historic design methods and drawings to assist with ongoing asset integrity decisions

  • Communicate with various levels of personnel throughout the organization, including management, plant operators, engineers (of various disciplines), tradespersons, and contractors

  • Participation in department meetings and meetings specific to the project assignment

  • Adhering to Mosaic’s mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies

What do you need for this role?

  • Second year or higher pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Systems Engineering

  • 72% Percentage or higher

  • Ability to function in an industrial  mining environment

  • 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is preferred

  • Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred

  • Reliable transportation - You will need to be able to travel to and from sites.

  • Ability to work full time

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and implement learned process, procedures or software

  • Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Ability to effectively work with employees at all levels within the organization and external customers, suppliers and vendors

  • Ability to maintain a clean work environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
