This program immerses students into the daily operation of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast’s top innovators. The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team, working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.
Organization & Team Overview
Comcast Government Affairs is based in Washington, DC. They serve as the company's lobbying and advocacy team, and represent the company’s interests to the House and Senate Congressional Members, as well as the Administration.
This group of men and women is the eyes and ears of what is going on in Washington. They monitor how new laws and regulations will affect the company and try to influence them. The intern will be a part of this team. In addition to the Lobby Team, within the Washington, DC office is the Regulatory Team that advocates for the company in front of the FCC- the regulatory agency that regulates telecommunications- video/broadband). There is also the Policy Team and the Communications Team, as well as the NBC Government Affairs Team and the NBC Regulatory Team.
Role Description
The intern will work primarily with the Federal Government Affairs team. The team is comprised of lobbyists who are a broad mix of former Senate and House staffers and association lobbyists.
The intern will learn that actions lawmakers take in Congress affect all citizens. They will learn how a Fortune 50 company interacts with policy makers and lawmakers and what the Federal Government Affairs team does to influence the policy coming out of the Congress and the Administration. The intern will watch hearings, attend meetings with House and Senate staffers, and will be part of the strategy sessions.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Watch Congressional hearings and take notes for circulation to Comcast Legislative Affairs team.
Work with members of the Legislative Affairs team on various projects.
Conduct guided legislative and Congressional research on topics of interest to Comcast NBCUniversal.
Attend internal Comcast meetings and take notes.
Support the Legislative Affairs team in planning and execution of Comcast corporate events.
Attend meetings with Congressional staff.
Process consultant invoices and other administrative assignments as needed.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred Skills
Strong interest in working on the Hill after graduation or has previously worked on the Hill;
Strong interest in government affairs/regulatory affairs.
Strong research skills.
Experience with Microsoft Excel, required
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign is a plus, but not required
Must have excellent time management and verbal/written communication skills
Must have great attention to detail and organizational skills
Must have ability to interface with all levels of management
Must be able to work evenings (when necessary)
Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interest in the telecommunications, cable and media industries.
Ability to work on a team.
Preferred Majors: Political Science
Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements
Prefer a just completed junior year, rising to senior year of undergraduate studies.
Returning to degree program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship (meaning, student must be returning to school for Spring 2026 semester before graduating)
Available to work 20-25 hours per week over the course of the 8-12 week fall semester
Start date is flexible, but after the Labor Day holiday.
Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs.
Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting
