Speech Pathologist Intern
Job Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist (CFY) is responsible for planning and administering speech therapy treatment plans while under the direction of a supervising SLP-CCC and be required to follow ASHA related rules/regulations until the completion of their clinical fellowship year. They will design and treat a variety of speech, language and swallowing functions for patients across the age spectrum.
1. Evaluates and provides evidence based treatment for a wide variety of expressive and receptive language disorders, cognitive disorders, speech disorders, dysphagia, fluency, voice, and social communication.
2. Develops plan of care with realistic and measurable short and long term goals most appropriate to the patient’s learning style and therapeutic needs. Clinician will utilize patient and/or family input, taking into account psycho-social, cultural and spiritual needs.
3. Assists in adjusting schedules to accommodate changes in caseload in the department. Supervises operation of specific treatment team.
4. Maintain patient records according to hospital policy, completing evaluations, re-evaluations, progress and treatment notes, charges, and discharge summaries within departmental time guidelines.
5. Contributes to the overall performance of the department through professional development strategies, including, but not limited to competency training, clinical instructor, in service coordination, serving as a mentor in area of clinical expertise, program leader, attendance of meetings, and performance improvement ideas.
6. Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in education offerings, independently achieve and maintain CEU’s for SC LLR.
7. Adheres to the American Speech Language and Hearing Code of Ethics and Preferred Practice Patterns, SC State LLR guidelines, hospital/departmental Policies and Procedures.
8. Communicates with physicians, other medical personnel and members of the interdisciplinary medical team regarding treatment provided, patient’s progress or complications, recommendations, and clarification of orders.
9. Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patients and staff. Ensures an orderly, clean and safe work area.
10. Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: 80 Hours Biweekly. Full Time

Education:
- Current applicable licensure through SC LLR
Current ASHA certification or current enrollment/active participation in CFY
Current Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification
