Healthcare Analytics Summer Intern

Where You’ll Work

This Internship will be working with the Product Analytics Department with a focus on providing reporting and analytical support for the clinical, digital, and provider focused solutions. This team utilizes pharmacy, medical, and lab data to gather insights on population health, product performance, and the value they create for our clients. The intern will support departmental tasks and will be exposed to integrated data analytics to identify top drivers or trends that lead to strategy ideation.  During the summer internship, you will have the opportunity to collaborate within your department and across the business while learning from some of our brightest and most innovative employees in your area of focus.

What You’ll Do

Real work: Over the course of your internship, you’ll be assigned real business problems that challenge your analytical and technical skills while helping you build industry knowledge. Your work will also allow you to make direct contributions to our mission and company goals.

• Gain valuable knowledge on top health industry trends and integrated data analytics
• Conduct research and present findings
• Perform data analysis and reporting
• Lead 2-3 key projects as assigned by department
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support product analytics department

Example projects:

• Analyze health services utilization trends among population with specific conditions
• Develop a dashboard that provides strategic insights for internal stakeholders
• Research an emerging hot topic to support ideation and brainstorming
• Analyze drivers of medical spend using statistical techniques and recommend actions we could take to mitigate cost increases

Qualifications

• Rising senior working towards a bachelor’s degree
• Preferred majors include Biomedical Informatics, Health Information, Business, Analytics, Public Health or related field
• Experience with prior database skills is preferred
• Proficiency with SQL and SAS. Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to think analytically
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong business aptitude and problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Self-starter who is eager to learn and acquire new skills.
• 3.0 GPA or above preferred

Additional Information

Location: This in a hybrid role.  Hybrid roles require you to be in the office three days per week. Applicants should be prepared to be aligned to either the Morris Plains office (115 Tabor Road, Morris Plains, NJ 07950) or the St. Louis office (One Express Way, St. Louis, MO 63121).

Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa support including H-1B, CPT/OPT/STEM, etc., now or in the future.

Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 10 weeks beginning May 18, 2026. Working hours are Monday – Friday.

Compensation: For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate of between $26.00 and $27.50 an hour depending on relevant factors, including major and year of study.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
