The Aerospace Corporation’s Experiment Lab, xLab, develops prototypes, instruments, pathfinders, and demonstration systems to address our customers’ hardest problems at the speed of need. We are hiring an Undergraduate-level Mechanical Intern for an opportunity with the Sensors and Systems Mechanical Design and Analysis group in an exciting and dynamic environment within xLab. xLab is responsible for the design, testing and fabrication of sensor prototypes and support equipment. In this position, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in creating CAD models and drawing using Solidworks as well as participate in hands-on testing and assembly.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Create CAD models and machine drawings
- Provide assembly and test support to senior mechanical engineers
- Participates with an interdisciplinary team in ongoing research or technical programs with academic collaboration partners
- Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
- Sophomore class standing completed by internship start date
- Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Familiarity with CAD modeling tools such as Solidworks
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Tools, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- In-progress or completed Statics & Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Experience working with hardware. Examples are mechanical systems (gears, motors) or electrical packaging (Computer PC boards, connectors, cables).
- GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Active security clearance

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
