Internship Details

  • Duration: 11 weeks, full-time

  • Dates of Internship: June 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026

  • Location:  Dublin, OH

  • Hours: Monday - Friday  6:00am – 2:30pm  

  • Compensation:   Paid internship; relocation assistance available for qualified candidates

  • Eligibility: Preferred candidates are rising juniors and seniors (Dec 2026 through June 2028 graduation) who are currently enrolled in a relevant degree program; however, all current students pursuing related studies are encouraged to apply.

About Team:

Labcorp's Dublin Reference Laboratory consists of dedicated, hardworking, high-performance individuals who analyses on average around 60,000 specimens each day. This team works in a high-throughput, high volume laboratory providing accurate and timely results.

Medical Laboratory Science Lab Assistants support a variety of lab departments including microbiology, hematology/coagulation, serology, special chemistry, and chemistry. Lab assistants in the Microbiology department will support the preparation of media and samples for cultures and chemical analysis used to help diagnose and monitor various bacterial, fungal, and viral infections in patients. Those working in the Hematology/Coagulation department will support the processing and testing of hematology and coagulation samples used to help diagnose blood disorders and deficiencies in patients. Lab assistants in the chemistry and serology areas will support the processing and testing of blood and urine samples used to help identify illness and disease as well as therapeutic drug monitoring and more.

Internship Assignment Summary:

  • Fulfill lab assistant or specimen processor duties while supporting the work of technicians, technologists and scientists in an area of testing in a medical diagnostic laboratory

  • Learn standard operating procedures for analyzing and storing specimens

  • Learns how to use laboratory equipment and software appropriate for assigned tasks

  • Prepare specimens for testing in laboratory departments through plating, aliquoting, distributing and sorting

  • Complete meaningful independent projects in assigned area of laboratory

  • Work under direct supervision and performs general duties as assigned by the designated department

  • Support the lab by performing data entry, loading instruments, performing maintenance on all types of equipment, gathering supplies for testing

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties for a designated department including clerical and customer service functions

  • Contributes to a cohesive team environment

  • Plans individual workload in coordination with team members

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred

  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Career goals that align with working in a medical diagnostic, medical toxicology, or anatomical pathology lab as a technologist

  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast paced high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks

  • Comfortability with handling biological specimens such as blood, urine, stool, serum, or plasma.

  • Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting

  • Able to work independently under general supervision

  • We are looking for someone that is well organized, has MS Office suite skills, can prioritize well, and with quick learning agility. Computer skills, some IT knowledge would be beneficial, as well as solid verbal and written communication skills.

Education, Academic Programs and Course Requirements:

Completion of the following before the end of spring 2026 semester:

  • a minimum of two years of coursework directed towards completion of a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Science; or

  • a minimum of 3 years of coursework directed towards completion of a bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry

  • Completion of 2-3 sophomore-level or above biology laboratory courses required and/or 2-3 chemistry laboratory courses. Successful completion in multiple laboratory courses in subjects such as hematology, immunology, microbiology, biological chemistry, or clinical laboratory science preferred.
