2026 Summer Intern

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

You will:

• Research and understand the principles behind sensing and perception technologies used in Waymo autonomous vehicles
• Analyze large amounts of data and draw statistical conclusions using Python and SQL
• Work with hardware and software teams to derive system-level requirements
• Summarize and communicate the results in technical reports and presentations

You have:

• Currently enrolled in a MS/PhD program in computer science, statistics, engineering, physics, or a related technical field of study
• Familiarity with robotics, sensing, optics, or perception technologies
• Experience analyzing data using Python 
• Ability to interpret multi-dimensional datasets and draw quantitative conclusions 
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail

We prefer:

• Experience with developing and/or testing machine learning/computer vision/AI systems.
• Experience with different sensing modalities, especially lidar or camera
• Experience with C++ / SQL
