In addition to all of our internships being paid, we will also offer the following for our Summer 2026 interns:

Summer 2026 Recruitment Timeline:   

November 10 – December 5: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume)  

Mid November – Late December: First round video interviews   

Mid – Late January: Second round interviews  

Late January – February: Selected candidates receive offers  

Summer 2026 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: December 5th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  
  • Program Dates: June 1 – August 7, 2026 
  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  
  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work in New York, NY.

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Video Player Technology, Roku Engineering: Join a team at the forefront of streaming innovation! Our Software Engineering group builds and enhances the Roku platform to deliver seamless, high-quality streaming experiences to millions of viewers. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience developing real-world software features, collaborating with seasoned engineers, and learning how large-scale media technology systems come to life. You’ll work on projects that span streaming technologies, user interfaces, and backend services—contributing to a platform that powers the future of entertainment. Along the way, you’ll receive mentorship, collaborate in an inclusive and supportive environment, and have opportunities to grow your technical and professional skills. 

  • Video Player Technology, JavaScript Engineering 1: Within Global Video Engineering, the JavaScript Engineering zone supports the majority of Peacock devices, including browsers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and set-top boxes. This internship will be part of the Browser & Chromecast team, collaborating with engineers across Video Engineering, App Engineering, Analytics Insights, and Ad Insights to enhance playback performance, automation, and system reliability. We’re a collaborative, ego-free team that values learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement. You’ll be paired with experienced developers and architects who will help you understand the streaming ecosystem and support you as you take on projects that enhance automation, optimize performance, and reduce technical debt.   • Video Player Technology, JavaScript Engineering 2: The Video Player Technology team is part of NBCUniversal’s Global Video Engineering organization. We build and maintain the core streaming video SDK that ensures seamless playback across various platforms including web browsers, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming media devices. Our SDK leverages modern video codes, adaptive bitrate streaming, low-latency streaming, and support for live streaming. We reach a wide audience and provide exceptional streaming experiences regardless of the device or operating system. As an intern on the Video Player Technology team, you will be embedded within a team that is responsible for ensuring playback across Android TVs, Fire TVs, and Vizio TVs as well as building features across all device types. You will be working on popular and high visibility streaming applications that serve millions of users across the world. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program. Spring 2026 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2026 internship program. 
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States. 
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week from June 1 – August 7, 2026.  
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY. 

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python, or JavaScript. 
  • Familiarity with software development tools and version control systems (e.g., Git). 
  • Familiarity with TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React). 
  • Interest in or experience with video playback technologies. 
  • Familiarity with automation testing frameworks & CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Familiarity with unit testing and Git operations. 
  • Experience with debugging tools. 
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. 
  • Exposure to software testing practices (unit testing, integration testing). 
  • Comfort working in a collaborative development workflow. 

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00. 

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $35.00.
