The Management Intern for Tempe Career Services (Career Readiness) supports the department to help ensure the diverse student population is ready for their next professional step upon graduation. This includes partnering with the Assistant Director, Career Advisors, and Coordinators to directly support the career readiness of students. This role is focused on creating resources and managing engagement requests (Presentations, workshops, tabling, etc).
Utilizing available resources, the Management Intern supports career development for all students through culturally competent programs and resources. Additionally, they design workshops focused on student career development and professional success.
Work schedule and location: Career Services serves students and recent grads virtually, in the office and at events during the timeframe of Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. A specific work schedule will be arranged with supervisor upon hire for 20 hours a week. Staff may have varied schedules to support students, alumni and employer partners. Job location is primarily located at the Tempe campus; however, the incumbent will occasionally be required to travel to other ASU locations, as needed.
This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review. Candidate is required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of employment and continuation of employment will be based on enrollment in a Graduate Program.
Essential Duties:
- Engages with diverse students on a regular basis, both in-person and in virtual settings by hosting workshops, webinars, and virtual 1:1 advising.
- Assists with content development, which includes creating and facilitating presentations and helpful handouts to support the career development and job search processes.
- Manages incoming engagement requests (presentations, tabling, workshops, etc.), including, but not limited to, communication with the requestor, data collection, and monthly engagement reporting.
- Provide support to office needs, including but not limited to front desk coverage, managing the campus phone line, and responding to general email inquiries.
- Regularly delivers career and professional development presentations and workshops, in both small and large settings, to classes, student clubs, professional organizations, and the community.
- Supports professional staff with campus partners and EOSS events and programming needs. Additional opportunities to assist with division-wide, and ASU, initiatives such as Fall Welcome, Family Weekend and Homecoming.
Desired Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program at ASU.
- Experience in working with diverse and historically underrepresented populations in a college/K-12 setting
- Experience building relationships with on campus departments or constituents
- Experience pulling data and tracking incoming requests
- Experience effectively working with people in varying sizes and modalities
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and database management systems. Can effectively demonstrate knowledge of specific applications such as: Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive
- Experience in work that requires attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience in prioritizing varied workload and meeting multiple, overlapping deadlines
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
Working Environment:
- Must be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the course of employment
- Adhering to Career Services office dress code.
- Lifting and carrying materials, as well as, pulling and pushing carts of up to 30 lbs.
- Additional movement requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
- Use computers effectively – including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen and using mouse and keyboard
- Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data

Our office works through a career development model focused on career interests. This Career Interest Community model allows students to break out of the confines of viewing career opportunities based solely on college majors and opens the door to a larger variety of post-graduation options. This model influences our career & professional development curriculum as well as our engagement with employers.
Career Services provides commensurate programs, services, and resources at all four Phoenix area locations, as well as ASU Online. Staff work collaboratively with CS leadership and staff at each location, and as part of the Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) Vice Presidential area. EOSS provides the ASU student community with support services, involvement opportunities and a rich Sun Devil experience to assist students in achieving their personal and academic goals.
