Business Unit/Role Specific Information

American Express’ Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in providing payments solutions for small, medium and large businesses. The GCS business offers a wide range of card and payment programs, expense management tools, consulting services, business financing and cross-border payments solutions to small businesses, mid-sized companies and large corporations around the world. Global Commercial Services and the Company continue to innovate and deliver a broad range of products and services to support the needs of all business customers.

The GCS CM Risk ID team is responsible for the control assessment of new and modified GCS products. It also leads a major company initiative within GCS - the transition to a new risk assessment framework that is more in line with regulatory standards.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Assist in implementing operational risk management plans within GCS including supervising issues with Key Risk Indicator (KRI) limits and supporting the integration of regulatory changes into governance frameworks.
  • Help identify operational risks within business processes and systems and assist in facilitating risk assessments and testing programs to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Categorizing controls and mapping them against risks and processes to improve risk management practices within the organization.
  • Support the team's initiative to transition GCS into a new framework for risk assessments.
  •  Additional projects may include the support of day-to-day operations in categorizing and documenting operational control assessments for new or modified products, as well as monitoring the implementation of process changes relevant to GCS products.
  • Interface with multiple teams, and multiple levels of the business unit's hierarchy, to contribute to the organization's overall operational risk management objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Master’s or Graduate degree program (MBA preferred).
  • Graduate Degree candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.
  • Interest in operational risk management, governance, issues management, and process risk reduction, financial services, control and change management processes.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Problem solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and evaluate risk scenarios.
  • Effective communicator: Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborative team player: Ability to collaborate within a team-oriented, matrix organization.
  • Project management experience: Detail-oriented skills that support the documentation of processes and procedures with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment is paramount.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 years’ minimum in the compliance, control management, or governance space.
  • Graduate students enrolled in one of the below areas or related field:
    • Data Analytics/Science
    •  Risk Management
    •  Business Administration
  • Familiarity with financial services or related industries.
  •  Willingness to engage in 'gray areas', where tasks can be ad-hoc and initially undefined.
  • Experience with data analysis tools.

Salary Range: $38.45 to $87.00 hourly + sign-on bonus
