Intern/Co-op Term: This is a 6–8-month co-op from January 2026 to August 2026 in Wilmington, MA.

Summary & Objectives:

MKS Instruments is seeking an exceptional electrical engineering intern/co-op to join the team.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support in the analysis, design, and testing of advanced power electronics breakthrough technologies in the areas of remote plasma sources, reactive gas generators, flow and pressure measurement.
  • Work with senior or principal engineers to test/characterize high frequency power converters/rectifiers/inverters for a variety of manufacturing and industrial applications.
  • The person must be able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly technical environment and work on multiple concurrent cross-functional projects.
  • A successful candidate must be highly self-motivated and hands-on with a can-do mentality.
  • Interface with product engineering and cross-functional teams as required.
  • Collaborate with a diverse, dynamic, multifunctional team environment
  • Travel Requirements: No travel is required.

Required Skills:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program for Electrical/Computer or relevant engineering majors.
  • Senior standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering power electronics and hands on skills in an R&D electronics laboratory are desired. Strong analytical capability is a must.
  • Ability to read and understand the schematics and printed circuit boards layout.
  • Ability to use tools such as oscilloscopes, high voltage probes, power meters, etc. to successfully and independently test and debug circuits.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems in prototypes.
  • Excellent understanding of power conversion topologies and modulation techniques are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Simulink/MATLAB, PSIM or Spice Tools are desirable.
  • Ability to read and understand C programming language and modify the code as needed.

  • Must be versed in using MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Demonstrated initiative, resiliency, flexibility, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work 40+ hours per week

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $25.00 to $29.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
