Job Description

The Future Talent Program features internships that last up to 12 weeks and will include one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research Division can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals.

Our company's Research Lab's Discovery and Process Research Departments across multiple geographies are seeking summer interns with a passion for scientific research, strong performance, communication skills, and the ability to work on cross-functional teams. We offer opportunities in our state-of-the-art science laboratories to solve fundamental synthetic or biological problems relevant to drug discovery and development, while functioning as fully integrated members of the company project teams.

Strain Engineering – Novel Expression Systems (Rahway, NJ)

The Novel Expression Systems (NES) is part of the Continuous & Expression Technologies group within the Process Research & Development Enabling Technologies organization. We are tasked with introducing and advancing expression systems across a range of organisms that will be applied to discovery and development of novel biologics and vaccines, as well as to our engineered enzymes. Our all-modality team works closely with scientists across our company to advance science and technologies with the goal of improving human health.

This intern will work alongside company scientists to optimize recombinant protein expression. Specifically, the candidate will explore approaches to maximize the production of difficult-to-secrete proteins in Bacillus subtilis. This study could include but not limited to: molecular cloning, strain construction, small scale protein expression, and high-throughput screening.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program or higher education in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or other relevant majors

  • Candidate must have completed two (2) years of studiy towards a Bachelor's degree by June 2026

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Candidates should have a significant interest in molecular biology and strain engineering

  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and preferably previous research experience that includes the use of various experimental techniques including molecular cloning, recombination expression of proteins, culturing of microbes, and analytical assays

Salary range:

The salary range for this role is $39,600.00-$105,500.00 USD
