Job Description
AECOM is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Fire Protection Intern to join our team in Arlington, Virginia office. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of fire protection engineering while contributing to the safety of our built environment.
This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the design and review of fire protection systems for various building types
- Support senior engineers in conducting fire risk assessments and safety audits
- Help prepare technical reports and documentation for fire protection projects
- Participate in site visits to observe and learn about fire protection system installations
- Contribute to the development of fire safety plans and emergency procedures
- Assist in researching and staying up-to-date with the latest fire protection technologies and regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure fire safety compliance in building designs
- Support the team in creating and maintaining project documentation and drawings
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering and must have completed at least one of years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of fire protection systems, safety codes, and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with CAD software and fire protection engineering tools is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn and develop skills in fire protection engineering.
