In Person

On the Input and UX Explorations team within Meta Reality Labs (RL), our role is to explore cutting edge input and realize novel interactions for AI-enhanced wearable computing, including but not limited to Meta’s industry-leading smart glasses and neural band product lines. We are searching for a skilled and motivated research intern to join our team and help us unleash human potential by bridging the gap between user intent and system action. We are specifically looking for a scientifically-minded candidate with experience in HCI, AI, and interactive computing. Our ideal candidate can go from ideation to implementation and validation of prototypes with ease, and is looking for a research environment with access to cutting edge sensors, resources, and testing facilities. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of user researchers, prototypers, scientists, designers, and engineers to realize the potential of novel inputs and interfaces for wearables. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Scientist Intern – Wearables Input and Interaction Responsibilities
  • Ideate and articulate novel interaction techniques that will revolutionize the input stack on wearable devices.
  • Plan and execute cutting-edge research of forward-looking interactions that are uniquely enabled by multimodal input sources, including neuromotor (sEMG) sensors.
  • Create prototypes which explore input and interaction techniques in a variety of wearable computing environments and situations
  • Evaluate the performance of input explorations and measure user response to input solutions
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of HCI, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience in HCI, UI/UX, AR/VR, graphics, gaming, or other interactive development
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Publications at CHI, UIST, Ubicomp, SIGGRAPH, IEEE VR, ISMAR, IUI, or related venues
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with novel/prototype hardware, sensors, or devices
  • Experience with gestural or wearable computing interfaces
  • Experience in designing, running, and analyzing user studies
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms
  • Familiarity with multimodal input
  • Familiarity with computer vision or computer graphics
  • Technical and non-technical communication skills
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
