The Role
Intern must be available to work full time (40 hours/week) during the 10-week program
Program Dates: May 29 – August 7, 2026.
Location: This position is fully remote / work from home in the continental US.
Work Authorization: US Work Authorization required for this role.
Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.
The Main Responsibilities
We are currently seeking an undergraduate or graduate level student to join the Global Security organization for a full-time, 10 week engagement during the Summer 2026. In this role, you will be a part of a team that builds technology to protect the world’s largest companies, governments, and millions of homes from advanced security threats. Joining our team will provide you a with a hands-on experience in cybersecurity domain, with the benefit of professional development and mentorship by senior members of the architecture and engineering organization.
We are looking for a talented student with career interest in cybersecurity and motivation to own the junior level engineering responsibilities of the Lumen Technologies security solutions.
- The experience in the cybersecurity organization will provide you with the opportunity to gain experience in developing security solutions in the large service provider environment.
- You will connect with mentors that will coach you on the current cybersecurity challenges and the approach to developing solutions through interactions and collaboration in a diverse, multi-functional department.
- You will be responsible for defining and executing test procedures and creation of technical documentation
- You may be responsible for research, technology evaluation, or solution development for the company’s Managed Security portfolio
- You will gain product development experience through collaboration with your peers and other development teams on design, testing or operational implementation of security solutions
Your responsibilities may include:
- Automation of provisioning, troubleshooting or testing of the security platforms
- Hands-on involvement in security solutions testing of the SD-WAN or firewall products
- Security product integration with reporting platforms and dashboards
- Assisting with hands on testing of security solutions and configuration guidelines documentation
- Collaboration with software development and analytics teams on requirement gathering, developing test cases using automation platforms such as ansible playbooks
What We Look For in a Candidate
Required qualifications
- Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
- Graduating August 2026 – May 2028
- Preferred fields include but not limited to: Cyber Security, Computer Science or related field
Proficiency and understanding of:
- Prior working or project experience testing, operating or automating platforms and solutions
- Data Science and analytics
- Scripting and reporting
- Python, Kafka, Hadoop, Linux, Unix, RedHat
- Written, oral, project management and organizational skills
- Technical documentation
- Presentation skills
- Knowledge of project management practices
Compensation
Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual’s level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.
Hourly Based Pay Range:
Min: $ 31/hour
Max: $ 46/hour
